FIREFIGHTERS have issued a safety warning after a spate of wheelie bin fires at properties along Thornton Road in Bradford this morning.

Crews from Fairweather Green were called to seven separate incidents involving a total of ten bins between midnight and 5am.

Police were also called to the scene in a bid to find those responsible.

Watch commander Peter Hanson said that while crews had prevented any of the fires spreading to houses, people needed to ensure they stored their bins away from their properties.

"A couple of the fires nearly spread to the houses, and we would urge people not to store their bins directly next to their houses, but in a safe place," he said.

Elsewhere, crews from Shipley fire station were called out at 1am to deal with a burnt out car at the bottom of Victoria Road in Saltaire

The vehicle, a Peugeot 308, was written-off in the blaze, which is believed to have been started deliberately.

Police have been informed and enquiries are ongoing.
