AN “OUTRAGEOUS” driver who mounted a pavement in Bradford to beat a queue of traffic has been caught on camera.

The motorist’s actions on Midland Road have been described as “atrocious” and “unacceptable”.

The car can be seen driving along the pavement, across the junction with Rosemount Gardens, back onto the path, off at Twickenham Court and back into traffic on Midland Road.

The driver who caught the incident on camera said the area is regularly busy with young children.

Sergeant Cameron Buchan, who is leading the Bradford-based Operation Steerside crackdown on dangerous drivers, said of the Midland Road motorist’s actions: “It is inexcusable. It is not acceptable. And it is outrageous.

“Who is this person that thinks they are different from anyone else and can drive like that?

“He is on the pavement where people are not expecting to see a vehicle.”

The motorist who caught the incident on his dashboard camera did not want to be named, but said he worked in Bradford and lived in Harrogate.

“I go on that road on my way home, at the same time, five days a week,” said the 55-year-old.

“Every week there is always one incident at least on there.

“It is mainly someone driving down the parking bay, like a red car does in that video. It is just one lane along there.

“That black car decided to go down the pavement because the parking lane was blocked.

The car drives across Rosemount Gardens, which the motorist whose camera caught the incident said is often busy with young children.

“The first house there is a mosque. It is always busy and there is always children there. Driving like is very dangerous in places like that.

“Obviously it is very dangerous and illegal to drive down the pavement like that.”

On driving standards in Bradford overall, the man added: “I would say it is atrocious. I live in Harrogate and work in Bradford, and I cannot wait to get out of the area each day.

“We drive round Harrogate and never have any issues. It is only when you come to Bradford.

“A lot of people at that Midland Road junction turn left and go up the hill even though it is a no left turn junction. I see cars go through on red lights after coming along at speed.”
