RESIDENTS are being warned to expect heavy rain tomorrow as the Met Office has issued a weather warning for West Yorkshire.

The yellow alert for rain, meaning people should be aware, is valid from just after midnight overnight until 10pm tomorrow, and also covers North Yorkshire.

“Heavy and persistent rain is expected to affect high ground of northern England throughout Saturday. Please be aware of the possibility of localised flooding and minor travel disruption” the alert says.

A large area of rain is expected to push into the northwest of the country tonight and slowly clear southeastwards through tomorrow.

“A combination of mild, moist air and strong southwesterly winds will lead to rainfall being especially heavy and persistent over higher ground. 30-50 mm is likely quite widely with 70 mm over the most exposed sites," the warning adds.
