A BOOK put together in a year-long interfaith project by the Muslim Women’s Council was launched at the National Media Museum.
Shared Heritage of Daughters of Eve details the use of the hijab and was a project by women from Christian, Judaic and Muslim faiths who met regularly. They shared their experiences, stories, travails and journeys on how head-coverings had played a part in their lives.
Bana Gora, CEO of Muslim Women’s Council, said: “Questions around whether the wearing of religious symbols in public should be allowed and the banning of the hijab in certain places led us at the Muslim Women’s Council to think about how we could reclaim the narrative from the media and the politicians.”
Keynote speeches were made by Bishop of Bradford the Rt Rev Toby Howarth, Senior Rabbi for Reform Judaism Rabbi Laura Janner-Klausner, and Dr Shuruq Naguib, lecturer at Lancaster University. Reflections were provided by participants Gillian Holding, the Rev Jenny Ramsden and Sofia Rehman.
The book can be bought on the MWC website.
