POLICE checked 40 vehicles as part of an operation in Thornbury to tackle illegal drivers.

As well as West Yorkshire Police, Operation Dodgegill also involved officers from the DVLA , HMRC Road Fuel Testing Unit, Environmental Agency’s Carrier Action Team and Taxi Licensing departments from Leeds City Council and Bradford Council.

During the event, last Friday, one vehicle was seized for not having vehicle road tax, and the police issued them with a £100 fine and three points for a bald tyre.

One vehicle was found to be using red diesel and the driver fined £535, and another driver fined £80 for expired road tax.

There were also warnings and fines given out to drivers for not wearing a seatbelt, for vehicles with defective parts and a Bradford cab driver was warned for a defect on his vehicle.
