THE grateful organisers of a year-long appeal in aid of the Bradford Burns Unit have thanked every single person who helped raise a “magnificent” £304,000.

The target of the appeal, which was organised as part of the 30th anniversary commemoration of the Valley Parade fire disaster, was £300,000.

Now, thanks to the generosity of fans and well-wishers worldwide, the unit can plan ahead for the coming years.

Ajay Mahajan, director of the burns unit, said: “It has been a great year for us. We have always been supported by the Bantams over the years, but this past year has seen an increased support for us - as is clearly reflected by the magnificent amount that has been raised.

The appeal now enters a new phase, and new projects are coming forward to consolidate this progress, and to continue the fundraising campaign.

“As always, the unit depends entirely on public donations to exist as a lasting tribute to those who suffered in 1985.”
