A MAN, accused of attempting to murder someone in a busy town centre, is thought to have serious mental health issues, a court heard today.
Richard Emblow, 45, appeared at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates Court this afternoon in connection with an incident in Shipley in which Scott Hacking suffered several stab wounds.
Mr Hacking, 32, suffered the wounds after running into the path of a car in Kirkgate. He was today described as being in a stable condition in Leeds General Infirmary, where he underwent surgery at the weekend.
Emblow, of Riverside, Bradford Road, Bingley, is charged with attempting to murder Scott Hacking, at Shipley, on July 23. He is also accused of possessing an offensive weapon, a lock knife, in a public place, Kirkgate, Shipley.
The magistrates were told his defence team was exploring the issue of Emblow's fitness to plead, but he denied intending to kill Mr Hacking.
Emblow's solicitor, Scott McLoughlin, said his client was likely to admit possession of the knife.
Emblow was remanded in custody and will next appear at Bradford Crown Court on August 22.
