A 52-YEAR-OLD woman charged with a double stabbing on the streets of Bradford is too mentally ill to stand trial, a court has heard.

Andrea Woodhead has been found unfit to plead by two psychiatrists and moved from prison to a medium secure hospital, it was revealed at Bradford Crown Court yesterday.

Woodhead, of Daisy Hill Back Lane, Daisy Hill, Bradford, is accused of stabbing two women in the back in separate incidents, within 20 minutes of each other, on Friday, March 4 this year.

She is charged with two counts of unlawful wounding after a woman in her 50s was injured in Scotchman Road, Manningham, and a woman in her 30s was stabbed in the car park of The Parkside Centre in Keighley Road, Frizinghall.

Woodhead appeared before the Crown Court on a video link to New Hall Prison in April when it was stated she had well documented mental health issues.

She was not in court for yesterday’s hearing when her trial, set for July 21, was postponed until July 29 when medical evidence will be given.

Immediately after Woodhead has been found unfit to plead, a trial by jury will go ahead to determine if she did the acts alleged against her.

Rebecca Young, for the Crown, said the only witnesses needed were the two victims and the officer in the case.

Both women were taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary for treatment and later discharged from hospital.

Each had suffered a single stab wound.

Police were called to reports of a woman in her 50s having been stabbed in Scotchman Road, Manningham, shortly after 9.50am.

Minutes later, at 10.10am, a woman in her 30s pushing a pram was found with a stab wound to her back close to The Parkside Centre in Keighley Road, Frizinghall.
