A PRIMARY school headteacher who asked two 11-year-old girls to strip on camera has been locked up.

David Warbrick, 51, the former head of Gomersal Primary School, asked the girls to remove their clothes on a webcam after contacting them through Facebook.

The victims lived in Derbyshire and had no links to Gomersal Primary.

Detectives warned youngsters to stay safe when using social media, following today’s sentencing hearing.

The offences took place in 2013. Warbrick was suspended from his head teacher’s job last year when the offences came to light and left the post permanently later that year.

Warbrick, formerly of St Giles Road, Lightcliffe, but now of Bishop Norton Road, Glentham, Lincolnshire, pleaded guilty last month, at Derby Crown Court, to two charges of inciting a female under the age of 13 to engage in a sexual act.

Yesterday, at the same court, he was sentenced to 28 months’ imprisonment. He was also given a ten-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and ordered to sign on the sex offender register for ten years.

The court heard he made contact with the girls via Facebook and later invited them to have a webcam chat with him where he asked them to take their clothes off.

After the hearing, Detective Constable Russell Slater, of Derbyshire Police, said: “He chatted with the girls and built a conversation with them before asking them to chat with him via a webcam. The conversation led to him asking them to remove their clothes.

“It is essential to ensure you are safe when using social media. I would like to remind young people that the age restriction for creating a profile on Facebook is 13 years old.

“I would advise that you do not accept friend requests from people you do not know and encourage parents to take an active role in what their child is doing online.”

A spokesman for Kirklees Council said that Warbrick was suspended as soon as the allegations came to light. He said: “It is important to stress that the offences have no connection whatsoever to David Warbrick’s former school.”
