A BRADFORD-born film-maker has started an online cash plea to help fund his latest movie to be filmed in the district.

Jack King, 31, is looking to raise an additional £8,500 through community fundraising to help pay for his new short film, The Crossing.

Crowdfunding raises money for a project or venture from a large number of people, typically via the internet.

The Crossing is a psychological drama about Terry, a man approaching 40 who is tortured by his infertility. It has been written and directed by Mr King and it will be shot in and around the Bradford district.

The appeal, made through the fundraising Crowdfunder UK website, is looking to raise the extra cash and will run until noon on Tuesday, May 10.

The project has already been given a £5,000 donation from Creative England, after Mr King was named one of this year's 16 Future of Filmmakers. He will receive mentoring from screen agencies.

The 15-minute long movie will be filmed in unconfirmed locations across the Bradford district over five days in July. It will then be shown at a series of film festivals from September.

Mr King, of Leyburn Grove, Shipley, is a former student of Beckfoot School, Bingley, who started on his film-making path at Shipley College in 2006, is broadly self-taught.

He said: "This is the last bit of funding we need to help start the filming.

"It is mostly family and friends that contribute to crowdfunding. We are just trying to get the word out more by doing it.

"Crowdfunding is being seen as the future of film funding.

"We just really want to make the film and really need people's help.

"If people are interested in supporting independent film-making in Bradford then they should get behind the project.

"I'm trying as much as I can in my career to film in Bradford. It's a great place to film. Not just Bradford itself, but the whole of Yorkshire.

"We are trying to film as much of The Crossing as we can in Bradford but some of it is set on the shore, so we can't do it in Bradford.

"The people of Bradford seem to get on board with filming here.

"We've not got any locations in Bradford yet. It's still early days."

Mr King chose the theme of male infertility after feeling it was a compelling subject.

He added: "You hear so much on the female perspective on fertility, but I just thought it would be an interesting angle to hear about it from a male perspective.

"It's quite a traumatic thing to go through."

Mr King wrote and directed Pit Stop with the support of UNESCO's City of Film scheme. It premiered at the 2016 London Short Film Festival and starred Aqib Khan, who appeared in West is West.
