GRITTERS will be back out on the Bradford district's major roads tomorrow morning after forecasters issued an ice warning.

It comes after snowfall hit much of the Bradford district this morning, with weather conditions improving at about midday.

The council's fleet of gritters started patrolling from 10pm yesterday as rain, sleet and snow was forecast through the night and to continue into this morning.

Heavy traffic was reported on some major routes this morning with up to 2ins of snow falling on higher ground.

Drivers were warned of hazardous conditions on some roads including the A644 Brighouse and Denholme Gate Road in Shelf and the A629 Halifax Road at Cross Roads, Keighley.

Trains are running smoothly and no delays or cancellations have been reported so far at Leeds-Bradford Airport.

Meanwhile, digital warning signs on the M62 have been alerting motorists to 'Severe weather conditions.'

Bradford Council said major roads in the district are due to be gritted again at 5am tomorrow.

At 11.18am today, the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning covering West Yorkshire for ice, valid from 7pm tonight to 9am tomorrow. 

A Met Office spokesman said: "Wintry showers will continue through Wednesday night and Thursday morning, with some snow expected on higher ground. 

"Clear spells between showers will allow ice to form on untreated surfaces. Please be aware of some difficult driving conditions and the possibility of some low-level disruption."
