THE body of a woman has been found at a house in Bradford following a fire.

Emergency services had to break down the door of the home at Thornhill House, Thornbury, after police were called at 9.02am by a concerned resident.

Abdul Rashid, a friend of James Rawnsley who lives on the street, named the woman as 70-year-old Rosie Hussain.

He said she had lived with her little terrier dog.

"I knew Rosie for over 40 years and she was a lovely person with a great personality, she was good to people and well-known.

"I am very upset about it, she was like a mother to me, very helpful, especially for James, she used to get him food and look after him and was a very faithful person.

"I last saw her on Wednesday and she seemed very happy and there was nothing wrong with her."

Police, firefighters and a paramedics are currently at the property in Thornhill Place.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Officers attended and found the property was secure, but had suffered fire damage.

"When officers forced entry to the property they found the body of a woman inside.”

The front door of the home is smoke damaged and a window is hanging out of its frame.

A mobility scooter can be seen in the hallway of the property through the open door.

Rani Devi, who also lives at Thornhill House, said: "I knew her for a long time but my as my English isn't that good we only really said hello, but she was a nice, helpful good lady."

Postman Darren Ratcliffe added: "She was a nice lady. It's terrible that she has died. She used to say hello when I was delivering the mail and was a lovely lady."

Witness Abdul Ahad Khan Liwany said he saw two police cars, a fire engine and ambulance near to Super Sponge Thornbury Hand Car Wash.

"Police broke the door of one house then ambulances and the fire brigade arrived at the scene," he said.

"I saw around ten policemen and many people on the scene."

He said he was unsure of what had happened, but it was something “very serious”.

The property is owned by social housing landlord Incommunities.
