FUN-SEEKING youngsters from the Bradford district will be spoilt for choice this half-term thanks to a packed programme of events.

Families have the chance to enjoy a week of games, shows and workshops where children can watch science come to life, ride onboard with Postman Pat, get involved in a rugby boot camp, sing along to the Sound of Music and laugh with a live national circus.

The National Media Museum will be running ‘Horrible Science’ activities at no cost this weekend until Sunday, February 21, between 10am and 4pm. Tony De Saulles, the original illustrator, will visit to tell stories, sign books and reveal his drawing tips and tricks.

Councillor Susan Hinchcliffe, the Council's executive member for education, skills and culture, said: “Bradford district has lots to offer and I think we don’t always make the most of what’s on our doorstep.

"I’m hoping for better weather during half term so more Bradford families are encouraged to experience some of our great cultural assets.”

Children can take a seat in the Media Museum's auditorium for The Super Scope show to discover technology that makes the eyes see objects bigger, or they can get up close to a live eyeball dissection whilst parents relax in the chill out zone.

The IMAX cinema will be showing Mysteries of the Unseen World, a show about things that are too fast, too slow or too small to see with the naked eye, suitable for children aged over seven.

The screening will run from tomorrow to Thursday at 10:45am, 12pm and 1:15pm and again from Friday to Sunday at 10:45am.

Meanwhile, the Bradford Bulls Foundation will put on an activity camp for children between the ages of six and 13, on Tuesday, February 16 from 9am to 5pm at £20 per head.

Bulls first team players will be present throughout the day for photo and autograph opportunities.

Participants will be given a complimentary ticket to award-winning Netherlands National Circus as well as a certificate and Bradford Bulls camp T-shirt.

The Netherlands National Circus, which visits the Provident Stadium from Tuesday to Sunday, is a fast paced show full of comedy, juggling, aerial performances, acrobatics, balancing and modern laser lighting.

Moreover, the young and young at heart can enjoy a new production of The Sound of Music as it returns to the Alhambra Theatre on Tuesday until Saturday, starring award-winning actor, Gray O’Brien and BBC One’s The Voice, Lucy O’Byrne.

Postman Pat and Jess the Cat are visiting Keighley & Worth Valley Railway between Tuesday and Thursday to take photos, face paint and craft. His Greendale Rocket will be giving rides each day, at Ingrow West.

Shipley arts charity Hive is running a half-term course with four days of making, creating, learning and discovering.

The course entitled Arts Award Discover is held at its base in Kirkgate, starts on Tuesday, February 16, from 10am to 3pm and runs to the end of the week priced at £85 per child.
