The family of a Bradford woman killed in a taxi crash in Doncaster has said how much she will be missed.

Lynda Leonard, of Thornton, was one of two women who died following the accident involving two cabs at the weekend.

The 52-year-old’s family issued a statement, through police, which said: “Lynda will be sadly missed by her daughter Abbygail and partner, Colin.”

Jacqueline Melinda Friend, 59, from Castleford, was also killed.

“The most fabulous wife, mum, nana, sister, aunty and friend, was tragically taken from all her loved ones by the incident on Saturday night in Doncaster,” a family statement.

“Our world has been shattered, and will never be the same again. Jackie was the foundation of our whole family, and will be missed unbearably by all who knew and loved her. We will love her forever.”

Ten people were injured in the accident.

A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said at around 12.30am on Sunday, a Fiat Scudo taxi was travelling along Great North Road towards Doncaster. It was driven by a 40-year-old and there were six passengers - three men aged 22, 25 and 29 and three women, aged 21, 25 and 26 - in the vehicle.

At around the same time, a LTI London taxi, driven by a 61-year-old, was travelling in the opposite direction. The two women who died and two men, who were both 58, were passengers.

The spokesman added: “The collision occurred near to the Mount Pleasant hotel on Great North Road. The two women, 52 and 59-years-old, travelling in the LTI taxi sadly died following the collision. The two men in the same vehicle sustained minor injuries, as did the six passengers in the Fiat, and were all taken to hospital.

"The drivers of the taxis, both men, were also taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries.”
