A SNEAK-IN burglar who left an ill and vulnerable woman devastated when he climbed through her bedroom window to steal a laptop computer has been jailed for two years.

Rizwan Hanif's victim, who suffers from chronic lung disease and is virtually housebound, kept her window open to help make her feel part of the local community, Bradford Crown Court heard.

She was now more isolated and a prisoner in her own home, prosecutor Duncan Ritchie said yesterday.

Hanif, 27, of Carlisle Place, Manningham, Bradford, pleaded guilty to burglary on October 1 last year.

Mr Ritchie said the woman was in another part of her flat when Hanif climbed in through her bedroom window and made off with her computer.

He was seen running away with it and arrested after his fingerprints were found at the scene.

While on bail, he committed a third breach of a restraining order by going round to his brother's home in Carlisle Street, Manningham, at 11.45pm on November 22.

Hanif, who had problems with drugs and mental health issues, was barred from the address, and the street, after causing trouble in the past, Mr Ritchie said.

He knocked on the door and "shouted and swore in a manic fashion."

He swung at his brother, who wrestled him to the ground with the help of neighbours, the court was told.

He then struggled with police officers who came to arrest him.

Mr Ritchie said this was Hanif's third admitted breach of the restraining order.

He also had convictions dating from 2012 for housebreaking and attempted burglary.

Mr Ritchie said Hanif's latest burglary victim was vulnerable and he was on prison licence at the time.

His barrister, Stephen Couch, said the defendant had been in custody since November 24.

"The open window presented him with an opportunity and he acted on the spur of the moment," Mr Couch said.

He then went round to the family home wanting money but his relatives had quite rightly had enough.

Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC told Hanif: "You have deep seated problems, exacerbated by drug abuse."

But he said the burgled woman was "a true victim."

She was now nervous of leaving home and her health problems had been made worse.

Hanif's criminal record included battery and harassment, as well as repeated breaches of the restraining order.
