STAFF at an Undercliffe hair salon are commemorating their 10th anniversary by doing something for the benefit of their local community.

Proud boss, Jenny Hawthorn, who runs NU professional hair salon, says the younger members of her six strong workforce came up with the idea of offering free hair cuts and pampering for those less fortunate and living in homeless shelters in the city at the end of the month.

The community based salon already supports local charities. "We are having an open day to say thank you to our regular customers but thought what else can we do?" says Jenny.

When staff came up with the idea she adds proudly: "I thought what an amazing thing to suggest."

Magda Dziurkowska, manager of Bradford Day Shelter, says the girls spent more than two hours styling the hair of three women and eight men at the shelter.

"They came up with this amazing idea to celebrate their 10th anniversary of their hair salon and to give something back to the community."

Magda expressed their appreciation to the girls. "There were a lot of really nice comments from the service users that they really really appreciated someone thinking about them and very many said they felt much better about themselves. There were a lot of smiles in the room."
