A DRUG dealer locked up for five years for cruising Bradford's streets selling low purity heroin and crack cocaine has been ordered to pay back his ill-gotten gains.

A judge has ruled that Nicholas Wotton's benefit from his crimes was £2,165 and his available assets, to be seized by the Crown, were £1,189.

Wotton, 24, and co-accused Mark Leach, 42, were jailed at Bradford Crown in June after police caught them driving round the city in a hire car peddling low quality Class A drugs to desperate addicts.

They were stopped in November 2013 and found to be in possession of wraps and heroin, crack cocaine and a bundle of cash.

Officers found 60 street deal wraps of heroin and 59 of crack cocaine, with a street value of just under £1,000.

Wotton, of Nunroyd, Cleckheaton, went on to commit an almost identical offence a year later while on bail. He was jailed for five years after admitting drug dealing charges.

Leach, of Sutton Crescent, Tyersal, Bradford, who had denied two counts of possessing drugs but was convicted by a jury after a trial, was jailed for three years and ten months.

Yesterday, Judge Mark Savill ruled that Wotton would have to serve an extra two months behind bars if he does not pay up.

Leach's case was adjourned for an hour-long hearing at the crown court on December 3.

His barrister, Robin Frieze, said he disputed that £2,800 the Crown was after from him was the proceeds of criminal activity.

Leach maintained it was inherited money and wanted to prove that to the court.

Both men were brought to court from prison for the Proceeds of Crime Application hearing.

When sentencing the men, Judge Savill described their crimes as "very serious matters involving the possession with the intent to supply heroin and cocaine".

Leach was foolish enough to conduct a trial when the evidence was very strong, the judge added.

Wotton, previously known as Simpson, had been sensible enough to plead guilty.

After being caught, Leach had done everything he could to rid himself of heroin which had blighted his life and that of his family.
