THE mother of a nine-year-old Bradford girl who suffers from a form of cerebral palsy will travel to Scotland later this month for an intensive physiotherapy course to help her walk after an appeal reached its £3,600 target.

Tyla Anguige, who suffers from spastic diplegia which results in stiffness in her legs, will go to Perth for two-weeks of specialist treatment from Saturday, August 22.

Tyla, a pupil at St John's Primary School, Bierley, is now walking full-time with a frame and is learning to walk using crutches after she underwent surgery in 2013.

The course, at MP Fitness, a specialist therapy centre for people with cerebral palsy, will further aid her mobility.

Her mother, Chrissy Jackson, of Burnham Avenue, Bierley, described it as a turning point in her recovery and praised the kindness of strangers after an appeal to fund the trip and pay for new silicon leg splints has so far raised £3,693.

After the treatment in Scotland, Tyla will continue to have private physio sessions at home and she might return to Perth for a further one-week trip next year.

Miss Jackson, 27, said: "I can't believe how quickly we have got to the appeal's target.

"It was daunting to raise the money. I can't believe how nice people have been. I'm blown away by that.

"Hopefully the trip to Perth will be a turning point in her recovery.

"Their success rates are amazing, specialising in children who have had Tyla's surgery.

"It's all really exciting.

"Tyla is absolutely fine at the moment. She is still using her frame most of the time but she is using her crutches more and more and we are also practising with her using one crutch before she goes to Perth.

"MP Fitness will give her the encouragement and a good workout and build her confidence to hopefully start her journey of walking unaided.

"The operation has changed her life so far."

The fundraising efforts have included a collection run by the Buttercup Children's Trust at Asda store in Rooley Lane, Bradford, which brought in £607 last month.

A fun day held in May, which included Tyla cutting 7ins off her hair to donate to the Princess Trust, which makes wigs for children with cancer, raised £1,050 for her appeal.

Two Tong High School students, Aneasa Khan and Megan Page, raised £144 for the fund after hearing Tyla's story during a thought for the week tutorial lesson.

The appeal is continuing to help pay for Tyla's further treatment. Anyone who wants to make a donation should go to justgiving.com/tylaanguige.
