A MOTHER has told a jury that her family were good neighbours to a couple she is accused of attacking in their home.

Samantha France, 42, and her son, Jack Watson, 21, deny unlawfully and maliciously wounding Daniel Marley with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm.

France pleads not guilty to causing Mr Marley's wife, Anne-Marie, actual bodily harm.

Bradford Crown Court has heard that Mr Marley suffered a fractured ankle and Mrs Marley a black eye and a lump to her head when they were assaulted in their home in Blackshaw Drive, Buttershaw, Bradford, on April 26

It is alleged that the couple were attacked at a drinks party to celebrate Mr Marley's new job.

But France, who lived a few doors away with her son, Jack Watson, told the jury yesterday that she was on good terms with the Marleys and was not aggressive that night.

She said her family had given them a dog, children's toys and decking for their garden.

Mr Marley was very drunk when she got to the party at about 9.30pm.

Mrs Marley was later found lying in the bath after she too had been drinking, France said.

France said she may have marked Mrs Marley's arms when she pulled her out.

She said Mrs Marley was angry and abusive to her and she and her son left the house and went home.

The trial continues.
