WORKS will soon take place to prevent anti-social motorcycle riders from causing safety problems on a Pudsey housing estate. Labour councillors including Richard Lewis, Josie Jarosz and Mick Coulson (pictured), all Labour, were contacted by residents of the new Wellesley Grange housing estate, on the former works site off Uppermoor, regarding a wide pedestrian walkway on the estate being used by bikers.
Residents feared the wide access onto the estate from Occupation Lane being abused by motorcyclists or quad bikers as a shortcut and the safety and crime issues this could cause.
Meetings have been instigated with Leeds City Council planning officers and representatives from the developer Bellway to come up with a compromise which will see an A-frame installed at the entrance to the footpath, as well as boundary treatments to prevent vehicular access.
Cllr Lewis said: "I'm happy that we have been able to come up with a solution which should stop these problems and I look forward to the work being completed shortly."
