BRADFORD University students will be flipping switches and pulling plugs as part of a competition to show how much energy the average person can save.
From today, students living in The Green accommodation on campus are being asked to challenge themselves by cutting down on the amount of electricity they use. Until Friday, the university union will be measuring the energy usage of each block in the Green compared to the weeks previous.
It will then be rewarding the block with the biggest percentage of energy saved with a prize at a special “Blackout” event at the student village on Friday.
The celebration will involve food, games and glow in the dark activities.
The event is tied in with the University’s Cycling4all scheme.
The overall purpose of the exercise is to make sure students pick up more information on how to be green.
Jess Waite, of the Union, said: “This has been planned by students to create awareness about dependence on electricity. The event will give students more information about being green.”
