A PROTEST against what has been called the “hypocrisy of Freedom of Speech” will be held in Centenary Square at 7.30pm tomorrow.
Bradford West MP George Galloway is scheduled to be among the speakers at the event, called Our Prophet Our Honour.
It has been organised in response to the printing of satirical cartoons featuring the prophet Muhammad, particularly following the massacre at the Paris offices of magazine Charlie Hebdo by Islamic extremists. Other faith leaders are expected to speak at the protest.
The event was organised shortly after the latest issue of the magazine was printed, featuring the prophet weeping over the Charlie Hebdo deaths on the front cover.
David Humphreys, who is hosting the event’s Facebook page, said he wanted the protest to be peaceful and respectful.
A spokesman for Mr Galloway said: “While he totally condemns the killings, there is a feeling in the community that there are problems facing Muslims about the issues of free speech. These cartoons have provoked a great anger.”

Actually, I should clarify that last statement. Outside of the T&A comments, I don't think Muslims are as victimised as some seem to think. As against this protest as I am, I think there's some pretty ignorant islamophobia on here.

As for a picture of Mohammed what does a cartoon of an arabian male have anything to do with a prophet? People are free to believe whatever they want to believe, that used to be a fundamental basic right in the UK but I think it is slowly being eroded by politicians who want to please everyone all of the time, we need a politician with the guts to be able to stand up and state the fact that if you come to Britain or live in Britain you either put up or shut up, if you don't like it here go somewhere else and don't let the door hit you on the way out.
These nutters that do go out attacking people be it verbally or physically just because they believe differently to them need to be either locked up for a very long time or put on a plane and sent somewhere where they will feel more at home with like minded people.

I like the way this article has been massively edited overnight since I emailed the writer of the article, Mark Stanford, who's name incidently has been removed from the top of the article.
In this article last night it stated that ‘politicans’ as a plural have criticized Jason Smith when he only quoted comments coming from George Galloway. And actually tried to sound convincing when writing about George Galloway’s comments. Every sane human being knows that Galloway is one of the biggest hypocrites in the entire country and that his respect party is just comical. How his comments can be used to legitimise anything is just ridiculous.
Secondly, he described it as a ‘multi-faith’ protest when you know **** well as I do the only people that will turn up are muslims. Bar possibly the odd brainwashed student or local hippy. Multi-faith is the biggest load of tosh I have ever heard.. Makes it sound as though there will be equal numbers from all religions. I would bet my life savings that 95%+ are muslims.
His hatred for UKIP was not well hidden in this article and I notice he mentioned that the candidate was standing in the may elections, another petty attempt to dissuade votes. Journalists like Mark are part of the reason that Bradford is in the top 3-5 worst places in the UK. It almost made it sound normal that our City is embracing this protest and made it sound as though all faiths and cultures are coming together to condemn the cartoons. How insensitive after all them terrible deaths. Shame on you, Mark.

The Prophet should not be offended as it clearly offends his many followers - I saw the front page of Charlie Hebdo and wonder what this was about. I have said much worse about GG, the p----k - he is electioneering as many others will do. One thing is very clear about British democracy - if you do not like it - move to a country that you do like - say Pakistan, East Africa or the Middle East but check there is a free health service, benefits,educational facility, and it has the other freedoms that are missing in the UK. I think you will still be here when this blows over.

The purpose of satire is often designed to puncture the pomposity of the powerful and their views and to expose hypocracy without resorting to violence. Is it so bad to expose a religion (or any religious group) which is constantly associated with violent acts or the threat of violence if you criticise their views? History is replete with religious conflicts. That's a perfect example of hypocracy and of course without recourse to satire another form of resistance to entrenched attitudes and power is lost.
