A JEALOUS boyfriend who butchered his love rival after reading on Facebook that his girlfriend had cheated on him must serve at least 26 years behind bars, a judge ordered today.

Robert Lyn, who was working at Morrisons head office in Gain Lane, Thornbury, Bradford, exploded with rage when he learned that Daniel Campbell and Stephanie Slade had spent the night together.

Lyn, 45, found out he had been cheated on while checking Facebook on the bus home from his agency job as a call handler in the supermarket giant's complaints department.

He drank half a bottle of brandy and murdered Mr Campbell, 38, with a large chef's knife as he slept in bed at home in Elizabeth Street, Elland, on July 18 this year.

Lyn was jailed for life by Mr Justice Coulson at Bradford Crown Court.

He must serve a minimum of 26 years behind bars before he can even be considered for parole.

The judge told Lyn, of Huntingdon Avenue, Bradley, Huddersfield, it was a "bestial" murder.

Mr Campbell was stabbed 20 times to the neck and stomach as he lay asleep at his flat.

After the case, Detective Chief Inspector Steve Snow, of Protective Services (Crime), said: "Daniel was a quiet, caring and loving son, who was loved by all his family. However, on July 18 the lives of Daniel Campbell’s family were changed forever by Robert Lyn.

“Lyn's brutal attack was fuelled solely by jealousy and he subjected Daniel to a violent, sustained and savage attack whilst he lay in his bed, for which he has shown no remorse.

"The events of that evening have without doubt had a significant and profound effect on Daniel’s family.

“Robert Lyn is a dangerous individual who, today, has been sentenced to spend his life in prison for this brutal attack.

"I hope that today’s sentence can bring some small comfort to the family of Daniel, who hopefully one day can start to rebuild their lives."
