SENIOR councillors have criticised members of a child safeguarding board for not turning up to enough meetings.
Some members of the district’s Safeguarding Children Board turned up to fewer than half of the meetings in 2013/14.
The problem was highlighted by Bradford Council leader David Green (Lab) at a meeting of the district’s Health and Wellbeing Board.
Safeguarding board manager Paul Hill said some organisations had two representatives on the board, so if one was absent they were still represented. He said many people on the board had “demanding jobs”.
But Cllr Simon Cooke (Con) said he thought they were being “too nice here”.
He said: “If these people are being put on a board by their organisations, then that is part of their job. We pay them good money to do this job.”
The three clinical commissioning groups had an attendance rate of 33 per cent. Helen Hirst, of the Bradford City and Bradford District Clinical Commissioninggroups, said: “We will reflect on how that looks.”
