THE author behind one of the most popular children’s books series spoke to his young fans at the National Media Museum in Bradford yesterday.
Terry Deary is the creator of the “Horrible Histories” series of books, which have been praised for getting children excited about history by focusing on the grizzly side of life in Ancient Rome, Viking villages and Egypt under the pharoes. Yesterday as part of the National Media museum’s half term Horrible Histories week, Mr Deary presented the Villainour Victorian Roadshow, which he followed up by signing his fans’ books. Although learning about the Victorian era may not normally seem like the the most exciting way for children to spend their half term, Mr Deary brought his usual grim twist to the era to delight the crowds.
The Victorian themed family events, which include sessions about “vile villains” and invitations for families to have ghoulish portraits taken, continue at the museum until Sunday.
