FIREFIGHTERS had to battle against intense heat to tackle a blaze which wrecked a kitchen following a suspected malfunction with a fridge freezer.
The blaze broke out at a house on Holme Top Lane today (Mon), while one person was in the house yesterday and they managed to escape without injury.
But by the time firefighters were called, the flames had wrecked the kitchen and broken through on to a landing upstairs.
Two firefighters from the Fairweather Green station extinguished the flames, but the house will need extensive repairs.
West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service have stressed the importance of having working smoke alarms installed, to give an early warning when fire breaks out.
They will be carrying out a ‘hot strike’ visits in the area shortly to check that neighbours have alarms properly installed.
