A 19-YEAR-old man addicted to legal highs admitted stealing meat from frozen food store Iceland a week after being released from a custodial sentence.
Bradford and Keighley Magistrates' Court heard yesterday how Thomas Low, of Alma Street, Bradford, had made two trips to the Weaverthorpe Retail Park at Tong Street on Monday, within an hour of each other and had concealed packs of meat under his coat both times.
The total value was £60 and when questioned by the police he gave a false name. Prosecutor Paul Ramsay told the court that Low had feared being recalled to custody and that he had previously been assessed as having a borderline psychosis directly linked to his use of legal highs.
It also emerged that there was a question mark over whether he could attend a court-ordered drug rehabilitation programme which was normally reserved for illegal drug abuse.
He was released on conditional bail in order for a pre-sentence report to be compiled.
