A BRADFORD community got together on Saturday in memory of a little girl, tragically killed in a road accident, and to raise money for the medics who tried to save her.

Six-year-old Lily Brooke Davis died from her injuries after she was in collision with a 4X4 vehicle, in Beacon Road, Wibsey, a short distance from her Beacon Place home, in June.

Family and friends organised a fun day, at playing fields off Brafferton Arbor, Buttershaw, and scores of people joined in the occasion, with all money raised going to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Leeds General Infirmary.

Lily's grandmother, Jackie Davis, said her grand-daughter would have enjoyed the day.

She said: "Lily loved playing here with her friends and that's what gave us the idea of holding the event here. She would have loved it all.

"Everything here today has been donated for free. The whole street and the whole community has pulled together to make this happen. I am very proud."

The field was busy with visitors to the stalls, which included cakes, tombola, bric a brac, nail painting and a barbecue. A DJ played music and there was plenty for the children, with motorcycle rides, bouncy castles and appearances from Mickey and Minnie Mouse and Fireman Sam.

Lily's father, Jack Davis, said: "Everything is going well and I hope we raise lots of money for those good causes. I am just very grateful and want to say a big thank you to everyone involved."

Neighbour Sharon Bailey, who played a big part in organising the event, said: "It doesn't matter how much we raise, as long as it is something that helps the air ambulance and the hospital, and the kids have had fun.

"We want to organise more events and try to raise enough money to provide a play park here for the children. Lily had so much fun here."

The day concluded with the release of a pink balloon - Lily's favourite colour - in her memory.
