GOLFERS will be teeing off in memory of a Shelf man next month.

Brian Leek who was an an honorary member of South Bradford Golf Club after 40 years died following a stroke in July 2012.

The second Brian Leek Memorial Golf Competition will take place on Saturday, August 9 and is organised by his daughter Alyson Hardaker.

Mr Leek, who was born in Liversedge, had worked at Scandura (BBA) from 1953 until 1981 when he moved to Hertfordshire working as a sales director with a Dutch belting company.

He came to live in Shelf after his stroke to be near his daughter and son.

Last year's competition winner was Mr Leek's youngest grandchild Joe Hardaker, then aged 17, who will be back on the course again hoping for another trophy victory .

His mum said: “Last year’s competition raised almost £1,000 for the Club and this year we are hoping to top that amount."

The evening will include a raffle with a week’s stay in a luxury studio apartment on the Cape Verdean Island of Sal as first prize.
