A NEW £12 million scheme to set up a 'University Enterprise Zone' in Bradford has the potential to be a "game-changer" for the city, the leader of the council has said.
The zone, which will focus on the expanding tele-health and tele-social care sector, is being created by Bradford University, Bradford Council and BT.
It has won financial backing from the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills and could create up to 2,100 jobs.
Speaking at a meeting of the Executive yesterday, council leader Councillor David Green said: "I think it has got great potential to be a bit of a game-changer in the local economy."
The Executive approved a plan to hand over one of its buildings, the Design Exchange in Little Germany, to the university as part of the project.
The building, worth an estimated £1.1million, will be turned into a centre for the research and development of hardware and software for the health care industry.
