A man will have to pay more than £500 for dropping an empty Lilt can out of a van window.

Paul Horne, 33 of Harris Street, Bradford, was spotted littering by a council warden on September 27. When the warden asked him if he would consider recycling the can or dispose of it properly, Horne got out of the car and began shouting at him, and asked why it was any of the council worker’s business.

The van was traced by the DVLA and Horne sent a letter ordering him to pay a fixed penalty notice of £75, which he had yet to pay by the time the case was heard at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates Court yesterday.

He had been charged with littering, but did not attend court. He was found guilty in his absence and fined £200. He will also have to pay £103 investigation costs and £200 legal costs to Bradford Council.
