A deadline for repair work on a rundown bungalow has been missed.

Neighbours and passers-by complain the neglected property in Kings Road, Wrose, is still an eyesore – even though the Bradford councillor who bought it pledged it would be brought back into use by the middle of last month.

Now, Councillor Ishtiaq Ahmed says it will be mid-January before the bungalow is occupied. But he says there are good reasons for the project not hitting the deadline.

The bungalow was bought by Bradford Council after it fell into disrepair when the previous owner became ill. It was sold to Coun Ahmed in December 2012 on condition it was brought back into use within a year.

But as recently as late October, windows were still shuttered and the garden a mess of weeds.

George Young, 86, lives in a bungalow attached to the property and has been worried about delays. His daughter Jane Cranston-Young said: “The gardens have not been tended and the shutters are still up. It is a tip. Some work has been going on, but not much.

“It is definitely not ready for occupation. I have worked in the property business for 40 years and would say there is at least eight weeks work there, even if they worked every day.

“The neighbours are fed up. They thought it would all be done and dusted by now but yet another timeline has passed.”

Dog-walker Geoff Shores of Plumpton Walk said: “I pass by nearly every day and the bungalow is still in the same dilapidated condition. It doesn’t look like any work has been done.”

Coun Ahmed (Ind, Manningham) said: “It might look like nothing is being done, but it is now just down to plastering and bits and bats. In two to three weeks the work should be complete.

“We have had issues such as sickness among the workmen and that put us behind schedule.”
