One of the world’s leading graphic novelists who has also worked on award-winning children’s books and top Hollywood movies including the Harry Potter series is one of the guests at this year’s Bradford Animation Festival.

Dave McKean is one of the most prolific artists in Britain, working in a variety of fields.

He achieved worldwide recognition for his graphic novel work, much of it with the author Neil Gaiman, including the groundbreaking Sandman comic series, for which he provided covers and which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year.

Other collaborations with Gaiman include the graphic novels Violent Cases, Black Orchid and Mr Punch, and he also illustrated Gaiman’s children’s books The Wolves In The Walls and The Day I Swapped My Dad For Two Goldfish.

McKean’s cinema work has included Mirrormask and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkhaban and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, for which he provided concept art.

The artist joins a host of major names from the animation world for the festival, to be held at the National Media Museum in Bradford from November 12-16.

Among the line-up is Oscar winner Adam Elliot, the acclaimed Australian stop-motion animator who scooped an Academy Award for his short film Harvie Krumpet. He will take part in a screentalk event with Barry Purves at the festival.

Comedian, writer and actor Adam Buxton returns to the Media Museum to host an exclusive festival edition of his acclaimed show BUG at BAF 2013 on Thursday, November 14. Tickets are on sale now for this brand new presentation of the BFI’s stand-out live comedy and music video show, following a sell-out performance at the Bradford International Film Festival 2013 in April.

This unique show for BAF 2013 will also feature a live interview with British animation superstar, Cyriak Harris. Cyriak began spreading his surreal animations across the internet in 2004.

Deb Singleton, director of Bradford Animation Festival at the National Media Museum, said: “We’re delighted to be celebrating our 20th BAF birthday this November with such a fantastic and varied line-up of screenings and guests, including globally renowned animators from as far away as Australia and the US.

“We will be delving into all aspects of the creative process at this year’s festival, revealing the very latest cutting-edge techniques in masterclasses suitable for professional animators and students, along with retrospectives and practical workshops aimed at younger fans.
