Three schools are celebrating after being rated as good in their recent Ofsted reports.

One school, which was in special measures in 2008, will be holding a celebration to thank pupils for all their hard work.

Newby Primary, in West Bowling, Southmere Primary, in Great Horton and Princeville Primary School in Willowfield Street have all been rated good in recent weeks.

In August, 2012, 65 per cent of Bradford primary schools were judged to be good or better, that has now risen to 80 per cent.

For Southmere Primary, it is an achievement because when current head teacher Hayley Marshall joined in January, 2008, the school was in special measures.

It was then graded satisfactory with good features, but now has its second good report.

The school will have a fun day with a bouncy castle and den building exercises on Wednesday and a visit from the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Khadim Hussain, to mark the accolade.

He will bring the junior Lord Mayor robes for the winner of the Pride of Southmere Award to be announced on the day.

Miss Marshall said: “We are absolutely made up with this.

“We have a good team of teachers committed to the children and working hard. Ofsted said something about the leadership team being hard taskmasters, and the staff stand behind them, but then added that the staff actually stand alongside them.”

Coun Ralph Berry, the executive member for children’s services, praised all three schools.

He said: “This is part of all schools supporting one another and Princeville has a tradition of using its knowledge to help other schools.

“To get three schools from the deprived inner city catchments at the same time is saying something quite powerful I think.”

Newby head teacher Janice Stephenson said: “Having worked at Newby for a number of years and becoming the headteacher this year, I was pleased to see in the report recognition that the school is extremely well led by the head teacher and the whole leadership team and that “the governing body is extremely supportive of the school”.”

Princeville Primary School’s head teacher, Sara Rawnsley, said: “We are pleased with this report as it reflects how we see the school. Parents, pupils, staff and governors have all worked hard to bring about the improvements which have led to Princeville maintaining this judgement of Good, especially within this new more stringent Ofsted framework.”
