Earlier in the week I wrote an article “Why the term 'Paki' is, and always will be offensive”.

In the article I discussed how that term Paki is a derogatory and offensive term and how it should not be used be used in a civilised society.

Although it looks like my comments were not appreciated by everyone. Alexander Baron from Digital Journal took exception to my words.

Now, normally I would ignore such things but then I was trying to figure out why this guy was attempting to link one set of issues with another? Are we only meant to discuss particular issues?

He says; “Writing in Asian Image, Aleia Lister whines “there is never an excuse to use the term ‘Paki’; it is a racially offensive term that should never be used by someone who does not have Pakistani heritage".

He then goes on to say, “Okay, we get the message, it's okay for you to use it, but not us honkies, or whatever politically incorrect Pakistanis call whites”.

If he had actually bothered to read the entire article he would have observed that I did say “Actually you can also argue that it should not be used by anyone”. But why let the actual facts stand in the way of his rant.

He then continues “Here's a suggestion dear, instead of penning absurd polemics, find yourself a husband and learn how to cook curry, like a good Pakistani wife”. Racial and sexual abuse combined, nice.

To be the honest, the rest of his article is even more absurd, he even manages to throw in Guantanamo bay and Pakistani nationals - important issues of course, but are totally irrelevant, how he manages to link this is mind boggling.

If he had bothered to actually read the number of articles written on this website about the treatment of alleged terror suspects and the drone war then he may have had more of an enlightened approach before writing such nonsense.

Online abuse for ethnic minority columnists is nothing new, but we shall not be silenced.
