GREENALLS PSO were brought back down to earth following last week’s Guardian Cup victory with a narrow defeat to Garswood United in Cheshire League Division One.
With only one place seperating the two teams before the game, it was always likely to be tight, hard-fought encounter.
So it proved, as Garswood's free kick routine just after the break proved to be enough to earn them all three points and move them up to third as Greenalls dropped to sixth.
That was partically due to Eagle Sports’ 4-2 victory over Crewe FC at the Cumberland Arena, where Ged Mcallister’s brace helped to propel Eagle up to fifth in the table.
Rylands’ 2-0 victory over Pilkington was enough to move them up the table through a tightly-packed mid-division.
But Warrington teams are struggling in Division Two, as both Moore and Daten prop up the table in 13th and 14th respectively following 1-0 defeats to Barnton and Tarporley Victoria.
Greenalls’ reserve team extended their lead at the top of the table to eight points with a 2-0 victory over Poynton, though the chasing Eagle side’s 2-0 win over Garswood means they still have a chance of catching up should PSO falter in the season’s final weeks.
Eagle’s goals came from Danny Nixon and Josh Purcell.
Third-placed Styal hammered Daten 7-1, while Whaley Bridge leapt above Rylands to eighth in the Reserve Division table thanks to a 3-1 win.
Grappenhall remain in 13th place after suffering a 2-1 reverse against Pilkington.
