Eleven vehicles have been involved in a pile-up on the Brighouse and Denholme Road in Queensbury in a fierce snowstorm.

The incident happened shortly after 2pm close to the Pineberry Inn.

Reader Andrew Lambert posted two of these pictures on Twitter and said: "Nine vehicle pile up between Thornton and Queensbury near Pineberry Pub...blizzard conditions. No way through."

Later reports confirmed there were 11 vehicles involved.

Mr Lambert said: "Lots of emergency services here. Drivers and passengers involved sheltering on a double decker bus.

"At least one stretcher used but all [incidents] seem to be slow-speed minor bumps."

A police spokesman confirmed 11 vehicles had been involved but said there had been only one man with injuries which needed hospital treatment.

A snow plough and gritters have now been called in to help make the scene safe.

The road was closed in both directions to allow the vehicles to be recovered. It was re-opened at about 4pm.

always bad up there , and with the rain what's coming down between the snow, the grit/salt just gets washed away. so a loosing battle it is

typical Bradford Council
Last snow that came i had to call over to Halifax. The roads were much clearer. Where i live we had to wait for the snow to melt before we had 2 tracks on the road. It just isn't good enough

Some people are quick to point fingers, I think bradford council have done a good job this year compared to other years they were out all last night they came past my house twice and our road is only a side road. Queensbury is bad in summer, I think the question u need to ask your self is was your journey really necessary plus as stevion12 says fighting a loosing battle when it gets that bad! ..... Just saying!!

why is it always quicker to wait for the snow to melt in Queensbury than it is to expect Bradford Council to clear it..Get a grip and grit the roads.for gods sake. its not difficult ,,its easy. stop gritting bradford centre where there is no snow, and start gritting queensbury.

When it snows and visibility is reduced; drive slowly!

Shame the gritters and ploughs were not called earlier. Good job no serious injuries.

What do you expect from the smart voters who vote these smart councillors in? pile ups and derelict city centres!

If the majority were "slow-speed bumps" then are all the drivers involved going to be prosecuted for driving without due care and attention? They obviously weren't allowing for the conditions. No excuse for it!

Always keep your distance and don't get too close to the vehicle in front.

Yeah because, let's face it, everybody in Bradford, LIVES In Queensbury, when we had the bad flurry last week if that had been the mentality of the council we'd have all being a bit knackered wouldn't we.

What needs to happen up there is people need to clear the side roads and then the gritters can use their grit on the main roads, but with the complete lack of community spirit it won't happen.

Such a blame culture these days. I am sure the gritter staff do their best and are equally frustrated they cannot grit roads with stationary traffic sat on them, and i mean stationary traffic due to every day conjestion not adverse weather. We are all grown ups and should accept responsability for our actions. Drive accordingly and only when necessary, simples.

Couldn't agree more the gritters have done a sterling job in Queensbury so far. The gritting team at Ford Hill have a large area of Bradford to cover for such a small team. Well done guys!!

I travelled from Queensbury through Halifax to work for 34 years...you could always tell where the Calderdale boundary at Swalesmoor was...the Bradford gritters had done their bit but their counterparts over the border were nowhere to be seen...

I live up here and I can tell you all that the snow fell very quickly. After the snow plough had been, the roads were covered with more snow in minutes. The blame here, lies with the stupid people that don't know how to drive in snow.....not the snow plough!

I was walking past just after the accident, it looked really icy, so it wasn't all to blame the drivers, also the corner was practically invisible to them, causing more problems leading to the crash.

The crash looked not too bad luckily, I think there could have been a little more help on the scene though! I saw the double decker bus where lots of passengers and drivers were sat, but nobody seemed to be acting, the police only bothered about the traffic but I'm glad that nobody waws killed or seriously injured.

I travel past accident site everyday.
Yes the weather can be bad.
Yes the council should have gritted.
But for 2.00 on people start parking/ waiting for kids a fox hill school. The parking is on both side of the road. Which make's it bad even when the weather is fine.
The council should make parking only on the school side, This would make it safer for kids coming out of school and crossing road. and the traffic could move freely.

I was one of the vehicles which was up there just after it happened and I had to turn round. The road was covered with snow, it was very icy and it was blizzard conditions with very poor visibility. How people can throw around accusations of poor driving unless they were there is beyond me. As for the gritters they can't be everywhere all the time. Why people always have to find someone to blame is beyond me. There is such thing as an 'act of god' shame so many people seem to thrive on negativity. The world would be such a better place if everyone focused on the positives rather than the negatives, or better still stop getting involved in matters which do not directly concern them. I'm pretty sure if someone said you were nt driving properly or were nt doing your job properly you'd be straight on the defensive. Too many busy bodies not enough do gooders. To end on a positive - thank goodness no one was seriously hurt and thank you for the assistance given by emergency services

At last, a person who talks some sense.
Nothing to do with bad driving, when you hit ice, you cant stop no matter what speed or how close you are to the car in front. Just one of those things.

a common sense post, sadly often lacking on this site, people are often quick out of the blocks to point the finger of blame and in doing so fail to engage brain before firing off their ill informed responses, it drives me mad, people are so negative, but, as we know its easier to focus out.

Well, as my name says I live up there - on that road no less!!
I can confirm they have been gritting all day but the snow came down REALLY fast.
I went to Tesco early afternoon and as I walked down there in a total blizzard, 2 all terrain ambulances went screaming past me.
Got back from Tesco and saw a huge queue on the road and a man going from car to car explaining what was going on. I joined in letting everyone know, walking down the queue of cars and letting everyone know there was an accident and where to turn around.
I then stood at the main crossroads to inform drivers of what was going on.
As I did this a policewoman turned up, she wasn't in a fully marked-up police car (just the logo, CSI car), so even when she parked her car across the road, people still ignored her and drove around her, and then came back complaining they were stuck.
She was radioing constantly for help but the police were already all busy with everything going on, so she got no marked back-up car. Her, a friend of mine and I continued to direct traffic in the driving snow for about 2 hours until it was over.
What did I learn from this?
You can't blame people for bad driving, not all the time. Sometimes you just can't stop, and unlike the Finnish driving lessons, we don't six compulsory skid pan lessons to learn to deal with snow when we learn to drive.
However, people are complete muppets when it comes to ignoring instructions and thinking they know best about getting to places in snow.
A lot of places lack community spirit but my little area aren't too bad. We all dig our own bits of the road out and I have had thank yous for digging my neighbour out, and also thank yous for assistance with drivers on the main road by the house.
There are not enough 'road closed' signs going around.
Council organisation does need to sort itself out BUT the gritting has been fine this winter season.
Any more questions feel free to ask. I hope everyone involved in the crash is ok now x

it wasnt snow that fell, it was what blow over the hill, picture one shows the road 300yrds before the crash and the road is clear of snow, good on the emergency services for clearing the road of snow, but they have left 3ft of snow on the path and parents and children now have to walk on the road to get to school

Shame not out before.
I think the gritters have done a great job at keeping the roads clear this year and noticed they were out and about last night. This accident probably occurred because drivers were driving too fast and too close to the vehicle in front for the road conditions
