The history boys! Emotional Phil Parkinson hails his Bradford City miracle workers
8:10am Wednesday 23rd January 2013 in Bradford
By Simon Parker, Bradford City Reporter
Jubilant Phil Parkinson insisted City’s Wembley-bound cup heroes will go down in history.
The Bantams will face either Chelsea or Swansea in next month’s Capital One Cup final after writing another extraordinary chapter in the story of their season.
James Hanson’s second-half header proved enough at Villa Park last night to see off a third Premier League scalp. Aston Villa won 2-1 but City’s 4-3 aggregate advantage took them through to a first final for over a century.
Parkinson said: “These lads will be remembered in the history of Bradford City for years to come.
“There’s a 1911 lounge to celebrate the FA Cup victory from that year. One day there’ll be another one named after these players for this cup run and what they have achieved.
“This is a moment to savour. To be a part of what we’ve achieved is something I’ll never forget.
“I think this is massive for the city of Bradford. It can really galvanise the area.
“They’ve been through some really tough times. There hasn’t been a lot to cheer for a Bradford City supporter so I’m glad we’ve given them reason to walk into work with their heads held high.”
Villa dominated the first half and led 1-0 at the break. But City came out galvanised and once Hanson had buried Gary Jones’ corner, the home side’s threat faded, despite a late second.
It was Hanson’s first goal since November. He only returned to training on Monday because of a cracked little toe and needed an injection in it before kick-off.
Parkinson added: “He’s a very unself-ish player. I probably would have wanted more goals from him but his all-round play for the team is excellent.
“I’m so pleased for him and he deserves to get the headlines.
“It shows what can be done. James is an inspiration for all those players who drop into non-league and he epitomises what this team is all about.”
Joint-chairman Mark Lawn has promised the squad an all-expenses paid trip to Las Vegas at the end of the season as City bank the wealth from their run.
Parkinson said: “Financially, the money we’ve earned up to this point has been fantastic. To go to Wembley will keep the club going for quite a while.
“I told the lads before the game that we had the chance to make history. Now we’ve done that – and we could sell out Wembley on our own.
“I also feel we’re good enough to get our promotion campaign in the league back on track. We’ve got to Wembley but we’re greedy because we want both.”
Skipper Jones was in tears at the final whistle. He admitted: “We can dream about winning it. Why not? We’ve come this far.
“I don’t mind who we play in the final. We’re just delighted to get there and hopefully we can pull off another massive upset and win the game.”

"Between you and every goal that you wish to achieve, there is a series of obstacles, and the bigger the goal, the bigger the obstacles. Your decision to be, have and do something out of the ordinary entails facing difficulties and challenges that are out of the ordinary as well. Sometimes your greatest asset is simply your ability to stay with it longer than anyone else."
~ Brian Tracy
So, with the above quote in mind, very well done and congratulations to the the Lawn and Rhodes families for not giving in. To Mike Baldwin and all those working down at VP more for the love of the Club than for money and especially to the 10 thousand plus supporters who have stuck by the Club in this 5th? season in league two.
If the players can keep battling away with the same determination to succeed as the above mentioned, then we will be fine.

I like many of the country were Bradford City fans for one night last night. I am a Bolton Wanderers fan and we had our glory nights as a lower division club in the 1990s so relate totally to how you felt last night. We fell all the way down the divisions in the 80s and climbed back up in the 90's and 00's. What makes this special is SKY and Premier League greed have ruined much of football but just when all hope was lost,a team from the fourth tier of English football beats three Premier League tems and all with a team that costs £7,500. That is probably the price of one of Wayne Rooney's shoelaces. You couldn't make it up and shows there is some romance in the game. Bradford as a city has fallen on hard times so a great boost for the area and 27 years after the awful fire this success is deserved to your great fans who deserve all the accolades. Hope you win the final and get in the Europa League. We qualified for the Europa League in 2006 and 2008 and travelling around Europe watching your team is something very special. You are 90 minutes from achieving that. Well done again.
I always cheer on the under-dog in neutral games. In this way i want Swansea to win their tie. Either way then a new name can be on a cup rather than the usual money spenders.
There should be no transfer window once the season begins for that reason imo as this allows any club with money to buy their way out of any potential trouble.
Football has become stale and the romance looking like it was evaporating but our run gives not only us but hope to other clubs out there. Long may it continue.......
Cheers for the words and good luck to yourselves.......

Well done City, not a big football fan myself, but I was rooting for them in this cup. what I can't understand is, how a team who's players earn £100k per week can be beaten by a team who earn £400 per week, it happens all too often, can anyone tell me why?
I was very often in the middle of or between much better paid and kitted out anglers who thought that the best gear bought for the most money would secure them a win. My tactics were to suss out the venue, the opposition, the best baits, etc and fish my own match with my so called "inferior" gear.

In recent years there has been no entertainment, so people don't want to feel like spending their hard earned money or something that they get no enjoyment over!!
I sometimes think that fans like you would prefer it if we were not playing well so that only 6,000 fans would turn up!!!!

Many thanks for the comment.
One of my best mates is also a wanderer and I've been with him to a few Bolton games (home & away) and I've always worn a BWFC top to show him my allegiance for the day, so I can only echo your sentiments.
Once again many thanks for your thoughts...

You wouldn't have put money on seeing that on the BBC website at the start of the season; as it is displayed just now!!!

A few dumb remarks on here today (as usual), but even as a true Bulls fan it's still great to see City at Wembley. A fantastic achievement and they can go all the way; upsets do happen at Wembley as well (1998 Challenge Cup Final Wigan 8 - Sheffield Eagles 17). Keep living the Dream and all Bulls/PA fans get behind the Bantams!
rful for all at the City and in the city of very proud Bradford......

Disgracefull and whatever the boys father says the police should act.
Worse than any 70"s hooligan behaviour and the pratt is probably on £100000 a week to behave as this.
What an example to society.

2.What is he playing at chasing the ball when a ball boy is there to retrieve it and paid for
3.The players interference caused the boy to slip or did not help
4.The kick was not any attempt to release the ball but a complete loss of temper and very dangerous.
5.Chelsea and Terry in particular have a history of disgraceful behaviour

Thank god its Swansea.
Robbie James was one of Bradford and Swansea"s greatest players.
A complete gentleman who died suddenly playing the game he loved after the curtain came down on his glittering career with a final swan song at Cardiff where he also became a legend and player of the year.
He died a pauper whilst pratts like this milk the game 20 years on.

Had the ball boy continued to delay getting the ball back into play then the ref would have added extra time. No multi ball in this game.
Maybe Swansea wanted it to be slowed down although Laudrup clearly stated there were no club orders to the ball boys.

A. He puts on social media he's going to waste time before the game even started.
B. He obviously thinks he can do what he wants because of who his dad is.
C. He's 17 and pictured drinking cider and champagne.. Sorry isn't that illegal?!?!
He should be punished for this..
He was clearly trying to wind the player up and got everything he deserved...
Maybe next time he'll realise he can't get away with everything... if he'd have tried that on Sunday league, he'd have been given a right rollocking....
I hope his mates give him some right stick now
