Bradford’s Great Victoria Hotel is used to seeing stars.

Having accommodated the Coronation Street cast involved in the court scenes filmed at City Hall for characters Tracy Barlow’s trial in 2007 and Gail MacIntyre’s court case two years ago, the hotel was at the centre of attention yesterday when around 30 cast and crew pitched up for a day’s filming in the Penthouse Suite for the second series of the acclaimed BBC1 drama The Syndicate.

Filmed around Bradford, the series, penned by Bafta award-winning writer Kay Mellor, follows the fortunes of five lowly-paid hospital workers at the fictional St Anthony’s in Bradford, who win a life-changing £72 million on the Euro Millions lottery.

Among the cast are Mark Addy (Full Monty, Great Expectations and Game Of Thrones), Jimi Mistry (EastEnders and East Is East) and Gavin And Stacey actress Alison Steadman.

David Wilson, director of Bradford Unesco City of Film, said the hotel was an iconic landmark in terms of architecture.

“We have seen an increasing number of productions coming to Bradford in terms of filming and TV, and that can only be a good thing and that is in some part due to the Unesco City of Film.”

The Syndicate is being directed by Kay Mellor and Dominic Leclerc and transmits on BBC1 in 2013.
