Pet torn apart in horrific attack (From Bradford Telegraph and Argus)

When are the laws in this country being made tougher for things like this happening, these yobs are getting away with murder, they should be given a taste of a spell in solitary confinement. It really makes me very annoyed when animals are treated like that.

There is something psychologically wrong with too many youngsters, it can't have happened accidentally. These "lads" should have known better, so why didn't they? Where's their humanity, empathy, compassion ect.? Causing pain and suffering to others has become a form of entertainment for them. They see it on TV, in games and sadly some see it as sport. I personally believe they have been socially engineered to be this way as they then make for the perfect killing machines/cannon fodder for the politician's military goals. We need to find a way of de-programming them and quick or this country wont be safe for anyone. Kids who/what the hell are you?

A police spokesman said because the incident was animals attacking an animal it was not a police matter

So presumably, organised dog fighting, **** fighting, bear baiting etc are not police matters either.
Surely the laws protect pets which are peoples posessions?
If, as the report seems to suggest, that this was a deliberate action by the dog owners, action should be taken before escalation into perhaps an attack on a child.

If Miss Kear had said that she suspected the youths had been smoking cannabis they would have sent 200 officers, 10 dog vans, and an armed response unit.

This is the behaviour of psychopaths - it's not normal to enjoy inflicting violence and suffering on others, human or otherwise. Research indicates this kind of behaviour in young people escalates from animals to people.

On this basis, it's important that the police investigate and apprehend the the individuals concerned... they need help as next time it could be a child or adult who's attacked.

What exactly would you like them to do? They spend that long tied up in paperwork that they don't have time to get out as much as they would like.

And besides, what exactly would you like them to do about this anyway? As the spokesperson said, an animal attacking an animal is nothing to do with them. Prove that the youths instigated it then fair enough, but unless you can do it who are you going to arrest, the dogs? If it's not a matter for them then they shouldn't waste police time going after it. Don't you think they have enough to do?

Don't get me wrong, I feel bad for the family, but I don't get all the hate going towards the Police for not getting involved in (and not spending your money as taxpayers on) something that doesn't involve them.

There is a lot of knickers in a twist here about nothing. What has EDL, drugs, anti police comments and where it happened got to do with it. A dog has chased a cat and attacked it. Not a shred of evidence that "yobs" guided the dog to do it. Thats what dogs do every day. Lets get the police to investigate every time a dog barks at a cat. That is not their job. If there is a dangerous dog in the area then it is the responsibility of the council dog warden to deal with it.

Its simple ALL DOGS should have to wear muzzles when out in public that way other dogs/animals and members of the public would be saved the pain and heart ache of dog bites / attacks

WRONG….. Section 3 of the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 Act says it is an offence for a dog of any type or breed to be dangerously out of control in a public place or a non-public place in which it is not permitted to be.

So it is the responsibility of the police and as for the comment about what can the police do about it, simple shot it before it attacks a child.

You're an idiot who can't even read the report properly.

It says there were TWO dogs. You say theres no evidence the "yobs" guided the dogs but at the same time it appears there was absolutely no effort by them to control or call them off.

It also says the dogs took the remains away. You consider this part of the 'dog barks at cat' behaviour?

If people can't control large dogs that can attack other cats, dogs, kids whatever they shouldn't have them.

If you think its ok for large dogs to kill other pets in the street then you've got serious mental issues. Did mummy and daddy not show enough love to you as a kid? Or maybe it was an unpleasant experience backstage on Jim'll Fix it?

Fair enough, I didn't know this. They should have gotten involved then. And now that it is a police matter they should arrange for the animals to be removed and put down. I understand they can become rather dangerous once they have a taste for blood (though I've been wrong before!)

As for the youths not trying to stop them (from another post), as much as I'd hate to see this happen, I wouldn't get between the dogs and thier (for lack of a better word) prey either. Feel sorry for the cat, but it's not worth one of the dogs taking a lump out of me too. Though the fact they were laughing about it shows the kind of scrotes they really are.

I feel for this family - I totally share your distress. Cats being set upon for so-called sport, it sickens me. It's not a new thing. I've lost two cats this way, and typically the youths ran off laughing. I've also witnessed a jack russell terrier tied up outside a KFC killed in the jaws of fighting dogs while the handlers did nothing but smirk. Identification of killers is crucial. Somebody knows who owns the Staffie and lurcher - speak up please. What about all the street cameras? Keep an eye on You-Tube - somebody will have filmed it for later enjoyment. Ask vets about the dogs, ask the council about tenants names - ask anybody, everybody, eventually these excuses for human beings will be identified. The dogs are not to blame, their prospects are poor in the hands of such vicious people. Regardless of police apathy, report anything of this nature, get a crime number (because it is a crime under the usual domestic animals acts and now under hunting with dogs act) insist upon being kept informed about progress of investigation.
