Bradford College cranes will form part of a light show
A projection at the £35 million Bradford College development is set to light up the city centre’s night sky from later this month.
The spectacular sequenced light show will be visible from three miles away from the new- build scheme and will be accompanied by an audio soundtrack.
The visual entertainment at the site will run from 5pm each night from Thursday, November 22, to Thursday, December 20.
The patterns and colours will be generated from the base of two tower cranes and projected upwards vertically as far as 39 metres. A seasonal goodwill message will be projected onto the gable end of the existing Kent building.
The initiative was dreamed up by BAM Construction who are re-developing the £35 million Great Horton Road campus for the college, together with West Yorkshire-based entertainment technical specialists Stage Management Company.
Peter Hargreaves, Stage Management Company’s head of production, said: “We are delighted to have created a fun twist on what is currently a building site and bring some glamour to central Bradford, creating something for the whole city to enjoy at Christmas time.”
The light show will be created through computerised lighting control software.
Dominic Makohin, senior project surveyor for BAM, said: “For BAM, a construction project is much more than just a building, it is a chance to do a range of other things for an area too.
“That means trying to bring local benefits for the economy and for the community.”
The new build Bradford College is due to complete in summer 2014.

The £35 million isn't the cost of the light show, it's the cost of the entire building project!

regardless we cannot stop education .. and that is such a narrow minded view!
shame Yorkshirelass was not around to tell Louis Pasteur or Alexander Fleming they shouldn't concentrate on their education! I wont go through the entire list of all the positive things that education has given Bradford and the world!
Don't get me wrong the old need to be looked after etc etc ..
but really to criticise a educational programme ... think the expression is "facepalm"

of course a factor of the high unemployment in the area is also down to the perceived "dumbed down area" where companies would rather take their business else where .. where education is on their doorstep.
Im a socialist but regardless of anything and everything thats wrong with this country .. its still beyond me how anybody can criticize education!!

Personally I don't know enough about the situation leading up to and decision to actually go ahead with this development, to make a comment for or against.
Having seen the poor standards of many school leavers though, I could quite easily criticize an educational system which has in many cases failed to do an adequate job.

Waste of money again! Pensioners and the poor will not be able to have their heating on this winter and no doubt the hyothermia figures will be even higher. But, hey ho, it would appear that austerity does not apply to Bradford on the important things in life for the old, disabled and vulnerable. Also we are almost the highest place in the country for unemployment. Can think of such a lot of other things that such a large amount of money could be spent on.
