Police are still searching for two young men who got away after a ten-hour rooftop protest in Keighley.

Officers had to cordon off the area around Redcliffe Street in the town after the pair got onto a roof at about 11am yesterday and started hurling slates as crowds gathered to watch.

They were seen moving between the rooftop and the inside of the house.

The men are wanted in connection with a recall to youth custody and a breach of a community order. Three people were arrested at the scene on suspicion of assisting an offender.

During the stand-off, trained negotiators were brought in to talk them down and police were withdrawn after the men’s retreat from the roof was settled on.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Thomas of Airedale and North Bradford Police said: “Our primary concern and responsibility was for the safety of these males and those around them. We withdrew officers from the scene after negotiating their retreat from the roof.”

He said: “The potential risk outweighed the necessity to immediately detain them and our focus will now be upon quickly locating them.”

Anyone with any information as to their whereabouts should contact Airedale and North Bradford Police on the non emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
