Keighley Show has grown in popularity and strength in the past few years and is in a sound financial position, the annual meeting was told.
However, adult admission prices are set to rise this year for the first time since 2004, it has been revealed.
Members heard that last year’s event cost £34,000 to stage and they were reminded that continued stringent measures were needed to ensure its success.
Leeds City College will maintain its sponsorship this year, it has been confirmed. Adult admission prices to the show will increase this year from £6 to £7 at the gate but the concession charge will be frozen at £4. Advance tickets will be on sale at £6 and £3.
Retiring show president Coun Graham Mitchell said it had been a privilege to hold office.
He was presented with a photograph album as a memento by chairman William Mitchell, who thanked everyone involved with the event for their support. Mr Mitchell said people were still commenting on how much they had enjoyed last year’s show and he felt it was essential the show society continued to develop and build on that.
Jean Harker was appointed this year’s president. She ran the handicraft section for 39 years, taking over from her mother-in-law who had performed the role from 1957 when the show was first held in its present format.
She handed over the reins to her daughter Karen Walbank after the 2009 show, but still helps out with the section. She is also a life member and her late husband Edgar was president in the show’s silver jubilee year.
Annual subscriptions are available and there is a range of sponsorship packages. For more details, visit keighleyshow.co.uk.
