A town centre shop which had traded for more than 20 years has shut its doors.

The Children's Society charity shop, in Cavendish Street, Keighley, has closed down with a slump in donations and sales being blamed for its demise.

But a spokesman for the charity said it hoped to be able to return to the town if it could find a suitable, alternative base.

Lynne McMahon, retail and trading director at The Children’s Society, said: “Our Keighley shop has been helping us raise vital funds for our work supporting vulnerable children for more than 20 years.

“Sadly, donations and sales have been falling to the extent that the shop is no longer viable in its current location.

“We are however looking for alternative premises in the Keighley area which would give us better footfall, and if we can find the right location we will be back.

“Until then I’d like to thank all our customers and everyone who has supported the shop over the years and helped us to make such a difference to young lives.”

The Children’s Society’s next closest shops to Keighley are in Shipley and Saltaire.
