ARMED police swooped on a house in Shann Crescent, Keighley, in the early hours of this morning.

Officers arrested four males on suspicion of firearms offences during the pre-planned operation at 3.53am.

The suspects, who include two men in their 30s, are currently in police custody. Some officers remained at the scene well after 9am today, with enquiries continuing.

Police were present both in front and behind the semi detached house.

A man living nearby, who asked not to be named, said: "We heard some sort of commotion, and also a dog barking, which turned out to be a police dog.

"There were a number of police officers outside, at least three of which had firearms. They were pointing these at a house up the road from us.

"We saw a man wearing a blue shirt come out of the house with his arms in the air and he was handcuffed and arrested. That's all we saw."

Richard Lister, 55, who said he had lived in Shann Crescent for about three years, said he was woken early this morning by the sound of a dog barking.

"As soon as I looked out I knew something pretty serious was going on," he said.

"I've seen police up here a few times, but never armed police.

"I saw at least one man being arrested, though I didn't personally recognise him.

"This was further up the road from me so I couldn't see what was going on too well. But there were a lot of police around, and they were there for ages."

Another woman living in the street, who did not want to be identified, said: "My own dog woke me up and I saw there were a lot of police outside, including armed police and a police dog."
