KEIGHLEY Show is gearing up to be a cracker.

A huge array of family attractions is planned at Saturday's (Sept 2) extravaganza, at Marley playing fields.

And show president David Gallagher is urging people to give their support.

"A tremendous amount of work has gone into ensuring another great Keighley Show will take place," he said.

"The committee has not been dampened by poor results from last year's show due to inclement weather.

"We all look forward to the support of young and old, who will make an essential contribution to the success of the show this year and for many more years to come."

The event will include all the usual classes associated with traditional agricultural shows, such as cattle, sheep, pygmy goats and horses.

There is also a large poultry, bantam, waterfowl and eggs section.

Among small animals will be rabbits, guinea pigs and ferrets.

Pre-entry for the ferret class is not required – people should simply attend not later than 10.30am.

A fun dog show is also being held, with entries being taken between 10am and 10.45am.

Also taking place will be BSJ show jumping together with horticulture, handicrafts, arts and crafts, and produce.

A range of entertainments will be provided for children, catering outlets will be serving-up a variety of food, there will be numerous trade stands and a selection of exhibitions and displays throughout the day, both outdoors and in a craft and local food marquee.

Returning to perform in the main ring will be popular stuntman Dangerous Steve.

He started presenting a motorbike stunt show when he was just six and his act now includes fire and chainsaw juggling, a giant unicycle, ladder balancing and motorcycle riding blindfolded.

Also returning, for a second year, is The Sheep Show, providing a fun and educational look at sheep and their wool.

Other favourites reappearing include the City of Bradford Pipe Band, terrier racing, vintage tractors and cars, and the West Riding Woodturners.

Heavy horses also feature again, with the addition for the first time of shire stallions and Clydesdales.

The Yorkshire Dales G-Scale Society will stage a model railway display,

Talons will have a static show of birds of prey and making their debut are Swales In The Dales, with stone carving using traditional tools.

Tickets for a 'grand raffle', with a host of prizes, will be on sale at £1 each from a stand adjacent to the public bar. The draw will be made at 3.30pm.
