A THEATRE group for people with learning disabilities has completed its move to a new base.

The Big Soup Theatre Group has moved from Springfield Mill in Oakworth Road, Keighley, to Russell Street.

The official opening was carried out by actor Chris Heseltine, one of the many people who attends the theatre group and performs in its productions.

Big Soup company director Tracie Venyige said: "It was a brilliant day. We showed guests around the building, enjoyed candyfloss and saw a lot of people come through the property to see what services we provide.

"I was happy with how many people came to see us. It went really well.

"There aren't many places like ours in Keighley and this is where we want to stay.

"Our group does an awful lot, though we don't always shout about what we do.

"Although we were very happy in Springfield Mill it's on to pastures new as we've been wanting somewhere that's on one level so we wouldn't need to go up and down stairs all the time.

"Even though there is some repair work in progress we're delighted with our new place, it's exactly what we needed. It's massive and is accessible to people in wheelchairs, which is great."

Miss Venyige said the drama group's more recent achievements included coming fifth in the charity film category of the Baftas.

This autumn it will host the premiere of its new film, "Hunted" made by people who attend its Wednesday sessions.

Miss Venyige said: "It's an excellent film but not what you'd expect. It is actually quite macabre and scary and was made last year on location at places such as St Ives Estate and other parts of the Keighley area.

"We'll be premiering it here in Russell Street on October 19."

She said the group has four more shows coming out between October this year and January 2018.

The Big Soup Theatre is also holding a fundraising staff show in aid of Manorlands, which will be staged on the evening of September 14.

Miss Venyige said: "All the people that work here get on board to do their own show, with all the money raised going towards Manorlands.

"There will be fun and frolics and everyone aged 15 and older will be welcome."
