VOLUNTEERS have noted a drop in litter at Oakworth since a village clean-up initiative began a year ago.

A ten-strong team turned out on Saturday for the fourth litter-blitz held as part of Operation Oakworth.

The venture, supported by Bradford Council's neighbourhood service, was launched last July after a number of complaints about litter and dog-mess bags ruining the area.

Under scheme, volunteers tackle rubbish dumped on routes in and out of the village as well as snickets and tracks.

A spokesman said: "On Saturday the team felt the village was looking cleaner, which was evidenced by a much smaller pile of bags after the event. More volunteers have been doing their bit between the clean-ups too.

"However, the group was keen to get together again in November, when we expect more litter to be revealed as vegetation dies back."
