PEOPLE have been encouraged to turn out in force this month to support the latest event in Haworth's calendar of public entertainments.

The 2017 Haworth 1960s Weekend will be taking place on June 24 and 25 in the village's Central Park and at other venues around Haworth.

And an unusual offer from the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway aims to help reduce the number of people using cars to attend the weekend.

A spokesman for the organisers said: "This year we have some new bands coming to the event, as well as those that went down well in 2016.

"It is 'National Beatles Day' on the Sunday, so we have managed to book a fantastic Beatles tribute band, "The Pretend Beatles", as our headline act. "Haworth Shine, which is a local children's performance group, will also be back on the main stage, as well as on Main Street.

"We have a member of our committee who is looking after the scooter clubs specifically, so on both days there will be a parade of scooters down Main Street.

"There will be the display of vintage cars in the park for people to come and have a look at and admire.

"We will once again have an inflatable attraction, and a few other kids' rides and stalls to keep the younger children entertained.

"There will be sweets, ice creams and other refreshments for both children and adults to enjoy.

"And people can expect more stalls selling a variety of goods and gifts including vinyl, jewellery and bags.

"We are very happy to announce that Bridgehouse Brewery, a local brewer which runs Haworth's Kings Arms Pub, will be running the main bar and we will also have a cocktail bar alongside it.

"Of course there will also be soft drinks and the vintage caravan selling teas, coffees and cakes, which was really popular last year.

"Our aim is to run an event which the whole family can come along and enjoy. This is why we advocate drinking sensibly and hope people will appreciate the weekend with this in mind."

The organisers have noted that they are aware of issues surrounding traffic and parking at other local celebrations, so they have urged people to attend the weekend using public transport if possible.

The organising committee spokesman added: "The Keighley and Worth Valley Railway has generously offered to give anyone wearing fancy dress a 25 per cent discount if they travel with them."

For people who do bring their own cars, there will be additional parking on the all weather pitch behind Parkside Social Club, Butt Lane, thanks to Haworth Primary School.
