A GIRL is starring in a film aimed at allaying children’s fears about entering hospital.

Little Eva Kitching, from Sutton, near Keighley, is seen arriving at Airedale General Hospital, meeting staff and then being shown to a bed to prepare for treatment. The four-minute footage also follows nine-year-old Eva as she takes part in activities and uses facilities available to youngsters on the children’s ward, including a play room with toys and computers, lights in a calming sensory room and lunchtime ‘picnics’.

“I liked showing other children that it’s not scary when you go there and everyone is really friendly – and the playroom is awesome!” said Eva, a pupil at Sutton Community Primary School.

The young musical-theatre lover, who attends the May School of Dance at Cross Hills, also acted as narrator in the film.

Sayma Mirza, the children’s unit manager at Airedale Hospital, came up with the idea.

The footage can be viewed on the hospital’s website – airedale-trust.nhs.uk – and on its YouTube channel.
